I believe that we all have the ability to participate in such an
event, its more a case of some of us have the will power and some don't.
I was out walking a friends dog along the river Cam one day, the
dog started to run ahead so I followed at a Jogging pace, the dog started to run
faster so I did the same.
By the time both I and the dog had come to a halt I realised
that we had covered a mile in distance.
I had no idea that I had it in me to run, it had been seven
years since I used to get up at 5am and head out across the country roads for my
8 mile run.
The run felt so good that without even thinking too much about
what lied ahead (pain, injury and lots of effort) I put my business mind into
action and decided that I should put the running towards a good cause.
I immediately thought, "The big run" The London Marathon
2006.
I checked the internet for the number of the NSPCC, a charity
close to my heart and one which I had supported in the past.
I called them up and was told that I was too late all their
places for the London Marathon had gone, although disappointed. I then called up
the Children with Leukaemia charity who where delighted to be able to
offer me a place.
I was now committed, Run, Jog, Walk or crawl I was now 100%
committed to completing my first Marathon and as you can see making every
personal effort to raise money for Children with Leukaemia.
